The Embassy of Vietnam in Bangladesh organized traditional Lunar New Year 2008’s reception


In the afternoon of February 3rd, 2008, the Embassy of Vietnam in Dhaka organized a reception to celebrate the traditional Lunar New Year 2008 (Mau Ty).The reception gathered many Vietnamese living and working in Bangladesh and their family, some local Bangladeshi, representatives of Diplomatic Missions and International Organizations and the representatives of some enterprises that are working closely with Vietnam.


In his speech on the occasion of the reception, the Ambassador of Vietnam in Bangladesh, Mr. Nguyen Van That, delivered a brief summary of the Vietnam’s economic and social situation in the year 2007. The achievements after one year integrating the World Trade Organization (WTO), and the fact of becoming a Non-Permanent member of the United Nations’ Security Council have demonstrated the prestige and the role of Vietnam in the world, as well as the possibility of increasing the ranking of Vietnam. The Ambassador also informed the audience about the changes in the Party and Government’s policies concerning the Vietnamese community living and working abroad. The main contents of these policies focus on recognizing the Vietnamese oversea compatriots’ contributions and facilitating their participation into future activities in their motherland, in the aim of building and renovating the country. The Ambassador also expressed his desire to see the Vietnamese community in Bangladesh continuing their solidarity, maintaining their mutual love and affection tradition, to create a bridge strengthening the two countries Vietnam and Bangladesh’s friendly relations and the understanding and connection between the two nations.
The reception took place in a warm and friendly atmosphere with a traditional performance.
